Date Night #7 (Gone Fishing)

Thanks for stopping by My Chick Flick: Date Night 7th edition. Please feel free to play along. The rules are posted on the Date Night page. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I hope Date Night adds a little more romance to your life.

Scott likes to fish. I like to fish, but really enjoy the water and scenery more than the fishing. Our fishing liscence both expire in about a month so of course we decided to spend Saturday afternoon fishing. We went to town and got worms (YUCK!!) and headed to the river with the boat in tow.

After an hour and a half of not leaving the landing because of motor problems, we left to change motors. Well guess what happened with motor #2? Yep it broke too. So aggravated with our luck on the river, we went home.

Sunday afternoon we tried this all over again, but this time we took motor #3 and a trolling motor. We were doing great for about 20 seconds and that motor broke! So we used the trolling motor instead.

We trolled around and then put down the anchors to fish. Scott fixed me up with a really fat worm (double Yuck!) on my hook. Told me exactly where to drop my line and what to do with it.

Well as he always says, “You always take a girl if you want to catch fish.”

I got several bites but wasn’t setting the hook apparently. After a careful demonstration of how to YANK the rod to set the hook, I tried it. SNAP! the rod broke in half! I’ve NEVER had that happen! EVER! That was one big fish!

Then about that time there were little drops of water everywhere. RAIN! Crap! So we looked up and saw the rain comming. We rushed as fast as we could to the landing, which isn’t saying very much because its a trolling motor. Thank goodness we were not very far away.

Now with my luck at the river it took forever for me to get out of the boat, because of all of my previous boating injuries. So by the time Scott was out of the boat, the storm has started.

Have you ever been stuck in a storm where the rain was horizontal? Well while Scott ran barefoot up the boat landing to get the truck, I had the job of standing at the bottom holding the rope to the boat. That’s not easy to do.

Thank God we didn’t get hurt or loose the boat, or truck for that matter. It was scary for a little while.

When we got back to his parents house, we decided to give up and go for dinner. I had a dress that I had bought for 8 bucks in the van, and slipped off my wet clothes and changed (no bra! but it worked) and combed my hair. Dinner was great, even if we had been soaked.

Our date didn’t go as planned, but does it ever?

For the next two weekends we will have the kids. This weekend Scott is moving into an apartment, and I am planning a surprise for him. I will show you during the week what I have up my sleeve.

So does your dates go as planned? Do you try to salvage what’s left?
